Safe is a strong word to use when all manners of strange things are happening. But you don't need to worry. I'm safe right now. I've got someone helping me with the source of my problems.
[ 'helping' might also be a strong word but eh... ]
infestation. i don't use it overly much i suppose but it is very handy. if you happen to come across a flea in your travels please save it for me. [ A normal thing to ask a normal friend. ]
does magic not require material components in your world?
[ very normal things to ask your very normal friend ]
Of course. Though I admit I might struggle to find one in the first place...
Unfortunately I'm not around enough magic users to know the finer details. Some of them do use catalysts, while others require specific incantations. Still others are born with magic in their blood and require nothing more than to imagine what they wish to do.
oh you need not go out of your way. just if you happen across one. i suppose that is not as likely within a city. [ Being on the road with a car instead of trekking through forests all the time sure is different. ]
it is almost like that where i am from as well save for the last part. even those who are born with innate talent cannot do anything they wish. i take it you have no magic yourself? what sort of talent do you have mr. wriothesley?
Nothing worth writing home about. If you're ever in need of a bodyguad I can land a pretty good punch, but that's about all I'm good for. Still I'm a quick learner so if you ever need an extra pair of hands I'm always willing to offer.
that is very kind of you. you are also very stoic in the face of vegetable carnage! and i am sure you have many other talents.
when we are past all of this, i would like to go out into the diffusion zones to look for other spell components. would you be interested in joining me?
[ the woes of (redacted) number of years spent in an underwater prison ]
But I do think they're more helpful than most people give them credit for. Like people, we shouldn't judge our insect friends just by appearances...or the number of legs they might have.
That's a fair point. I suppose I've had to fight one too many giant spiders to think kindly of their more diminutive kin. [ He doesn't know the difference between insects and arachnids okay. ]
You're a very kind-hearted person, Mr. Wriothesley. Have you met anyone interesting lately?
I don't think it's kind so much as basic human (and animal) courtesy. But I appreciate the compliment.
I'd say you're pretty interesting. I've never met a person who collects fleas for spells. Though I have met plenty of people who fight giant spiders on the regular.
You would be surprised at how many people don't feel the same way... Or perhaps you would not.
By my world's standards, I'm less than average. Many casters are familiar with my spells. [ Adrian does, perhaps, have a slightly low opinion of himself, which means that this isn't objectively true. ] You should meet my companion, Lady Fern. She's truly quick-witted, and quite skilled with her knives. She's protected our adventuring party many times before.
Are there many adventurers in your world? I'll admit, giant bugs weren't exactly a common occurrence for me until I traveled to Barovia.

I'd be happy to help.
Though I have to ask
Do the rest of your spell components require as vigorous upkeep as the fleas?
[ he's haunted by these fleas. ]

[ wait a minute ]
Are they also insects?
no subject
are you frightened of insects?

I think some of them can be very pleasant fellows, actually.
They just seem harder to keep alive than other things.

wait what do you mean pleasant fellows? are the insects in your world sentient?
